Jackie and Jarrod Skurrie and their daughter Stevie Renee will hit the stage on Saturday, March 9, but this isn’t their first time under the lights together.
Jackie and Stevie were in Shepparton Theatre Arts Group’s 2014 production of Steel Magnolias, and Jarrod was an enthusiastic audience member, attending every show.
Stevie said performing with her parents had been a lifelong adventure, and she had no plans of giving up.
“I grew up on stage singing with Mum and Dad since I was like seven, and so they’ve seen me sing at my worst and vice versa,” she said.
For the upcoming performance, it was Stevie who encouraged the team to audition.
“I’m the one that roped them all in this time because Mum wasn’t going to do It Takes Two: Volume Two,” Stevie said.
“So, I called them both and said, ‘This is the audition information; just audition and afterwards, you can decide if you want to stay in it’.
“Thankfully, they’re still here because I think this is really cool, having my mum and dad in the show with me.”
For some families, doing a production together could cause tension, but these performers say they have loved every second.
“We love that we get to see each other all the time,” Jackie said.
Although they’re all part of the show, Stevie won’t be on stage together with her parents.
“I’m sad that I don’t get to perform with either Mum or Dad for this show but it’s really cool and it’ll fun to go into the dressing rooms and spend time with them both,” she said.
Jarrod and Jackie will be performing a duet, but if you want to know what they’ll be serenading the audience with, you will have to go to the show.
Although the three family members are the closest by blood in the cast, they have welcomed the blossoming friendships they’ve made along the way.
“STAG has always had my back and everyone here has been beautiful to work with and so welcoming,” Stevie said.
“It’s just a really good community.”
It Takes Two: Volume Two is on Saturday, March 9 at Riverlinks Eastbank, Welsford St, Shepparton. The matinee begins at 2pm and the evening show begins at 7pm. Tickets cost $40.
