The Albanian Moslem Society of Shepparton won the Arts Award. The not-for-profit organisation was recognised for its annual events, language classes and community support.
“For me personally, it was an honour to accept this award on behalf of the Albanian Society of Shepparton and the Shepparton Albanian community,” the Albanian Moslem Society of Shepparton committee president Reg Qemal said.
Mr Qemel noted the significance of the award to the Albanian community.
“To be acknowledged and recognised in excellence for all that the Albanian community does is very special, and not only for the community but for the individuals in the Albanian community that go above and beyond the call to maintain the Albanian culture,” he said.
Hosted by Victorian Governor Margaret Gardner, the event was held on December 4, a collaborative effort between the government and VMC to honour the work of nominees across 14 categories.
Categories ranged from arts and business to emergency services and mental health, reflecting the diverse ways individuals contribute to the state.
“The Victoria I love is a place where we come from hundreds of different backgrounds, but we are one community — tonight we celebrate and honour individuals and organisations for their remarkable contributions to a united Victoria,” Premier Jacinta Allan said.
With over 220 nominations, the awards showcased the variety of talent and dedication within Victoria’s multicultural communities.
“From arts to youth leadership, the awards shine a light on the ways these efforts foster cross-cultural understanding, strengthen community bonds and create a more inclusive Victoria,” Multicultural Affairs Minister Ingrid Stitt said.
