These native species were electro-fished from 15 km of irrigation channel near Cobram, which is to be drained for Goulburn Murray Water maintenance works.
Tatong Anglers Group fish stock coordinator Noel O’Connor said 23 Murray cod and two golden perch were relocated to Lake Benalla and released by TAG members last Wednesday.

“The Murray cod ranged in size with the biggest measuring 910 mm and smaller-sized fish down to 150 mm,” Mr O'Connor said.
“The golden perch weighed in over 3 kg and the biggest measured just under 450 mm.”
Mr O’Connor congratulated the Victorian Fisheries Authority for their efforts to rescue these fish.

“They would have otherwise perished when the channels were drained and the weeds poisoned,” Mr O'Connor said.
“It is great to see our angler licence money being used for projects such as this, where the captured fish are liberated into public accessible waterways where anglers can fish for them.”
