Len was born and educated in Benalla.
Upon leaving school he entered the plumbing trade.
After completing his training, he and his bother Keith established ‘Levy Brothers Plumbing’, which became a respected local business, operating for more than 33 years.
Len met his wife Nancy in Melbourne while completing his plumbing training and they married in 1947.
Their children; Ken, Leonie, Rodney and Glenda, were integral to much of their involvement in local sporting clubs.
Sadly Nancy. passed away in 2007.
Community service was very much part of Len’s and Nancy’s DNA.
They were heavily involved in the All-Blacks Football Club with both becoming Life members.
Len served as president for three years in the early 1970s and he also had three years as president of the All Blacks cricket club.
Shooting was another of Len's sporting interests and he had a long involvement with the Small Bore Rifle Club when it operated the Drill Hall, and also competed with the Benalla Rifle Club at Reef Hills
He was also part of of a small group that moved a building from Bandiana to the Friendlies Reserve to accommodate the club.
Len had a long involvement with the Benalla Holy Trinity Church.
He was a PT instructor with the Church of England Boys’ Society (CEBS) and served on the Vestry for many years.
He was also a long-term member of the Benalla Marangan Masonic Lodge and served on the Benalla Cemetery Trust for a number of years.
Len Levy became member of Benalla Lions Club in May, 1971, and at the time of his passing, was in his 50th year as a member.
Throughout those years, he performed a wide range of roles with distinction, including the presidency in 2001-2.
His exemplary service was recognised repeatedly with a range of awards.
He was made a Life Member of Lions international in 1992; received a President’s Appreciation Medal in 1996; a District Star award in 2003 and in 2008 he received the most prestigious award within the International Lions organisation when became a Melvin Jones Fellow.
In 2000, at Benalla’s Australia Day celebrations, Len was honoured with the presentation of an Achievement Award from the National Australia Day Council for his community service.
Len's passing is another extremely sad loss for Benalla Lions and wider Benalla community.
It follows the relatively recent passing of two other much loved and respected Lions members - Ted Exton and Rose Smith in September and December 2019 respectively.
Vale Len Levy.
