For Ellie, Cooinda is a family affair, with her great-grandmother Gracie a resident at Cooinda for many years and her grandmother Coral Welsh volunteering at Cooinda.
Ellie’s mother Kate Culhane has been a member of Cooinda’s care staff team for two years and is supportive of Ellie joining the team.
“We are delighted to welcome Ellie to our care staff,” Cooinda chief executive Alex McKenna said.
“It’s great to see young people joining us, having undertaken on-the-job training one day a week with our care team.

“During their time at Cooinda, the students learn a lot about their caring role and also our values.
“Our training partnership with The Centre has been a great success for all parties involved.
“A high percentage of trainees are offered a role at Cooinda upon completion of their certificate.
“They feel comfortable from the start, as they have met our staff and know their way around the facility.

“Now more than ever, it is important to ensure we have a pool of job-ready staff to step in whilst we have essential COVID-19 additional safety measures in place to keep our residents and staff safe right now.”
