The Victorian Government proposed closing this intersection in 2017, and of the 279 Benalla Rural City ratepayers and entities who were contacted, the council received 74 written responses.
Sixteen responses supported the proposal to close the intersection based on safety, with 54 objecting and four being neutral.
Mayor Danny Claridge said the council listened to all the submissions and the majority was clearly asking for this intersection to remain open.

“We have listened to the residents and people who use this intersection as part of their daily lives and it is our absolute position that we do not support closing this intersection.
“Residents feel that the visibility on this intersection is very good.
“We ask the Victorian Government to look at every other possible option to improve the safety of this intersection rather than closing it as has been done at the Baddaginnie Warrenbayne intersection and also at the Sharps and Taylors Rd intersections at Tallarook.”
