Why have you decided to run for council?
I have always been a great believer in being part of the community and that effecting change requires varying points of view and involvement in the process.
As a past council employee, business owner and resident I understand the importance of communication between the sectors and believe I can contribute to this end.

Have you been on a local council – or similar group before? And, if so, how will that experience help you in council?
I have been employed by the Benalla Rural City previously and this experience has given me insight as to the constraints that council sometimes must work within, but also the opportunities that can be leveraged to achieve outcomes.
I know that I have gained skills that will place me in a position to help bring direction that is positive to the Benalla community.
On the other side as chair of the Benalla Business Network I have listened to and been a part of the business community and understand some of the issues and frustrations felt by businesses in Benalla.
Similarly, being on the board of Waminda House has helped me to understand the need for inclusivity.

Tell me a bit about yourself for those in town who might not know you?
I have lived in the Benalla region for around 24 years.
Anne and I have been involved in community through businesses, such as the Goorambat Post Office, The Bootmakers Shop and our recent purchase of the Benalla West Post Office and Store with our daughter Beth.
I was employed by the Benalla Rural City Council in the business development and tourism area and have been a member of various volunteer involvements.
These being Waminda Community House, Tomorrow Today, Arts Council, Benalla Street Art Committee, The Benalla Migrant Camp, Benalla Aviation Museum, Benalla Historical Society, and other groups.
We moved to the Benalla region as Anne’s parents were here and we wanted our three children to enjoy being spoilt by their grandparents and a country lifestyle.
We have made great friends and embraced the opportunities that being involved in community has offered.
The decision to make this move has exceeded our expectations.
What policies/programs/initiatives etc would you like to work towards in the next four years if you are elected?
All decisions by council should be based on genuine community needs with transparent consultation with all stakeholders.
This needs to be practised not just stated.
Some of the issues I would like to see addressed not in order of priority are Sustainability and growth (but not limited) to the following:
● Strategic plan for Transport within Benalla and region – Accessible, Public transport, walking, driving and Cycle;
● Opportunities for all age sectors within the Benalla Region, access to mental and health services, education, family services;
● Communication and community engagement – that is relevant and inclusive;
● Identification of Economic opportunities that will increase employment, business (New and existing); and
● Sustainable policies around agricultural, climate, environmental.

What has been your opinion of the current council/councillors during their time on council?
Council over the last few years have had challenges and issues that have placed strain on direction and the ability for decision making to effectively realise opportunities.Issues such as:
● Rate capping and grants funding changes● Natural events both directly and indirectly, (Bushfires)● Currently Covid-19
We may not agree on every decision carried, however if effectively communicated then we may at least be better informed.

Do you have anything you would like to add?
Councillors can assist in setting directions to open opportunities that will increase the liveability and sustainable capacity of the Benalla region.
If I can contribute to that then I would grasp that fully.
