Using renewable energy will help contribute to a more sustainable community and future for Australia.
The switch to solar supports ALDI’s commitment of 100 per cent renewable electricity to power its Australian operations by the end of 2021.
ALDI Benalla is part of a national roll-out, which will see 102,000 solar panels on the rooftop of 250 Aldi stores and six distribution centres by the end of 2020.

This roll-out will prevent 41,000 tonnes of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere every year, which is equivalent to 11,000 cars being taken off the road or powering 7000 Australian homes.
The switch to solar across almost half of the store network follows existing actions taken by Aldi Australia to reduce environmental impacts more broadly, having already reduced overall operational emissions across the business by 40 per cent from a 2012 baseline.
Managing Director of Victoria at ALDI Australia David Zalunardo said the program included the use of LED lighting, climate friendly refrigerants and energy efficient chillers in stores.
“We are excited about the role that ALDI Benalla now plays in contributing to a more renewable future for Australia,” Mr Zalunardo said.

“The switch to solar at the store is a significant step toward reducing our impact on the environment.
“It is our hope that we can continue playing a positive role in the local community and make our customers proud to shop at ALDI Benalla.”
As part of Aldi's store refurbishment program, a nationwide plan to refurbish 210 stores, Aldi prioritised upgrades of energy intensive systems to reduce demand for energy.
To meet the commitment of 100 per cent renewable electricity, ALDI has procured energy through two 10-year Power Purchasing Agreements (PPA).
The wind farms, located in the New South Wales Southern Tablelands and Western Victoria, will provide renewable energy to all of ALDI’s New South Wales and Victorian stores.
