Running out of the State Gliding Centre at the Benalla Airfield, the competition will run from March 4 to 10, with practice tasks available from March 1 to 3.A spokesperson said the gliding club was excited to host the championships in Benalla, with the event extremely important to Victorian pilots after a difficult year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.It follows on from the success of the Australian Junior Gliding Club Youthglide Regatta and coaching week held at the the airfields in January.With 14 active gliding clubs in Victoria, the Benalla-based club is seeking pilots from across the state who are interested in participating.With the competition open to all ages, competitors range from newcomers looking for experience to seasoned competition pilots.And beside single-seat glider entries, there will also be pilots flying in two-seater gliders, making for an interesting event.Though the championships are normally held earlier in the season, due to the uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 situation, it was postponed until later in the summer season.● This event is predicated on COVID-19 restrictions and advice from DHHS.More from the Ensign:Reg Stewart, the father of Benalla AviationWall to Wall postponed until 2022Benalla Shorts screening for one night only in SwanpoolCommunities unite to fight ARTC plans for Indi stationIdiotic graffiti outside P-12 primary campus
