The stories are told via a new Victorian Government website, deadlyandproud.vic.gov.au, and includes two from the north-east's Yorta Yorta people.
Victoria is the only Australian state or territory to begin treaty negotiations and the idea behind the site is to provide the public with a deeper understanding into the state’s true history while encouraging people to be proud of Aboriginal cultures.

People in the north-east and across the state can learn more about the land on which these stories are told, and the connection to country, by exploring the interactive map of Victoria on the platform.
A campaign spokesperson said the term "deadly" to Aboriginal people means strong, amazing and awesome.
“It’s been used in this campaign to describe the storytellers and advocates, and the stories they share,” the spokesperson said.
Yorta Yorta and Wurundjeri man, renowned actor Tony Briggs is a Deadly and Proud campaign director.

“The platform gives all Victorians the opportunity to see why they can share in our pride as Aboriginal people,” Mr Briggs said.
“Stories told through this campaign, highlight the resilience of our people to survive and thrive in Victoria, the unique practices of our cultures and our strong connection to country and community,” Mr Briggs said.
“All Victorians can and should be proud of what we have in Victoria.
“Our state’s history is shared, as is our future.”
Trent Nelson, who has Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta heritage tells one of the stories on the site.

“This project is very important to us as Aboriginal people in Victoria as it's telling stories about our past,” Mr Nelson said.
“And I guess non-Aboriginal community members probably need to understand what has been the sadness in our communities, to acknowledge that and it’s a way of us moving forward.
“That's why it's really important for us to tell these stories.”
Deadly and Proud is the latest iteration of the Victorian Government’s Deadly Questions campaign, which launched in June 2018.
