Ice and cocaine found in truck on Hume near Benalla

A commercial quantity of meth amphetamine and cocaine destined for sale across the north east was found following a routine traffic stop on the Hume Fwy near Benalla on Monday.

Wangaratta Highway Patrol officers have charged two men with serious drug offences.

The Ensign was alerted to a truck surrounded by police cars in Thomas St on Tuesday morning.

Victoria Police has since confirmed the truck was intercepted by the highway patrol officers just before 6.30pm, Monday.

The driver, a 40-year-old Numurkah man, allegedly tested positive after undertaking a roadside drug test.

A subsequent search of the truck uncovered a large amount of what is believed to be illicit drugs, which will now undergo forensic testing.

The driver and his passenger, a 46-year-old man also from Numurkah, have been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of methyl amphetamine and trafficking a commercial quantity of cocaine.

They were remanded in custody to appear at Wangaratta Magistratesâ€™ Court on Wednesday, March 24.
