The Wangaratta Fly Fishing Club (WFFC) attended with a number of its members from across the north-east and delivered a presentation on fly casting, casting techniques and how to read the water.
TAG President John Gebauer, who is also a member of WFFC, said it was a very successful evening.
“It was wonderful to have a number of (experts) in one room showing off their skills and answering many questions,” Mr Gebauer said.

“Greg Wood the president of the WFFC did a demonstration on fly casting which, with low ceilings, was terrific to see and some of the TAG members gave it a go with plenty of laughs.
“It was good to see a mix of young and old turn up and enjoy the evening after a previous year of no meetings at all.

“TAG is a local fishing club with a difference in that it's not only fishing we do but we work in with Fisheries Victoria to help stock our local waterways with native fish from Nillahcootie to Nalinga, downstream on the Broken River.
“TAG has been the driving force installing spider structures within our Benalla Lake for fish habitat and have been involved with tree planting along our eroded creek banks.”

Mr Gebauer said he, and the committee, would like to see more families within local communities getting involved with the club.
“TAG has numerous activities every month which includes fishing days and weekends, bus trips, dinner nights, a three-day all-inclusive Christmas weekend, and some general relaxing with great company,” he said.

“If anyone is interested we have an array of top men and women who specialise in casting for trout, natives and redfin.
“They can assist you with stream and boat trolling techniques and they will certainly help you out to hook that big one.”

Mr Gebauer said TAG has had a number of guest speakers in recent years including Andrew Byrne, a local trout trolling guru, members of Fisheries Victoria, local legend Robbie Alexander, cod lure designers and much more.
“If you're a beginner or experienced, fly fishing is one of the most amazing fishing techniques you can master,” he said.
