Twenty thousand dollars has been donated to Echuca Regional Health to help with their cancer centre.

The Ballendella Red Cross gave the money as part of a deceased member’s last wishes.
“We are donating (the money) to various local places that we feel are worthy. We’ve already given $10,000 for an aged care home in Rochy, and we have other places in mind,” Ballendella Red Cross member Stephen Rhind said.
“The person wanted the money to benefit the community, so that’s what we are doing with it.”
Mr Rhind said that, with two members of the group being current cancer sufferers, helping improve the facilities means a lot to the group.
“It’s a very good feeling knowing that we are helping people in our community who are perhaps a little bit less fortunate than some of us,” he said.
“Giving money to the cancer centre will help a lot of people, we hope.
“Having those facilities locally is absolutely brilliant. Excellent. It can only help people who have these unfortunate afflictions and the closer their treatment is to home, the easier it is, and hopefully, better outcomes will happen.”

ERH Cancer and Wellness Centre manager Lyn Jeffreson said having these community members donate is very meaningful.
"I think it’s great for small community groups to have that connection with ERH. People value health services,” she said.
"Small communities have faced many challenges over a number of years, and the floods in Rochester and surrounding areas are no different.
“It’s been a lot of strain on people living in that area, and it’s just so generous that these committees are still actually running.”
