Garry Armstrong and the Echuca Racing Club matched a donation by the Australian Defence Force when personnel were staying at the club.
Mr Armstrong said that at the peak, there were some 80-90 ADF personnel at the club.
“They basically used the ERC as their ‘home away from home’,” Mr Armstrong said.
“At least we could offer them a warm shower, a dry place to sleep, somewhere they could relax after each day out helping with the floods.
“We found them excellent “residents” and after they left, you wouldn’t have know they had been here.”
Moama RSL chief executive officer Ashley Menzies says the club ran activities and events to help raise the money, as well as buying shirts for staff.
“We wanted to raise money for River Relief so we ran a special evening at the club,” Mr Menzies said.
“We purchased shirts for the staff to wear on the day, we held a raffle and sold meals, and all the profits went to River Relief.”
Mr Menzies said that after speaking with Mr Armstrong, they decided to round up their donation.
“Echuca Racing Club and the ADF’s donation came out to $3000. Our proceeds came to around $2800, so we rounded it up to $3000 to make it $6000 between Moama RSL, Echuca Racing Cub, and the Australian Defence Force.”
Lou Conway thanked the organisations for their support of River Relief and noted Moama RSL as a major contributor to the fundraiser.
