However, finally blue skies and sunshine appeared.
A club spokesperson said members could not have asked for better conditions for the morning walk through the Reef Hills State Park.
“Our walk leader, Brian, led us in a circuit through bushland,” the spokesperson said.
“(It was) nice flat walking, a little wet underfoot in low-lying areas, (there were) lots of birds, including noisy choughs, as well as a few eastern grey kangaroos.
“We admired quite a few magnificent large trees and photographed some colourful fungi.
“Once the circuit was completed, Brian suggested a short drive to Poison Creek Bushland Reserve, located further down the road.”
Once there, members enjoyed a short exploratory walk, accompanied by more noisy bird calls — cockatoos, this time.
Returning to the picnic area, members sat and enjoyed lunch, finishing with a dessert of apple pie and cream, compliments of Brian.
“The verdict on this walk was that it was nice easy walking in a state park just outside our back door,” the spokesperson said.
