Benalla will be one of four stops in KOFFIA's new Touring Program, and is the only location in Victoria to host the event in 2024, offering both locals and visitors a chance to experience the best of Korean cinema.
KOFFIA Programmer Francis Lee said he was excited about bringing the festival to Benalla.
"We are thrilled to introduce the touring program to Benalla,“ he said.
“It allows us to share the beauty and diversity of Korean cinema with a wider audience across Australia.
“This year’s selection of films promises to captivate viewers with its rich storytelling and exceptional cinematography.”
The KOFFIA Touring Program will feature four standout films, each offering a unique storyline.
Opening the festival is FAQ, a whimsical family comedy about an overburdened elementary student, Dong-chun, who discovers the secrets of the world through a talking bottle of rice wine.
Also screening is Don't Buy the Seller, a thrilling mystery featuring Shin Hae-sun and Kim
Sung-kyun, which follows a woman who becomes the target of a psychopathic serial killer after purchasing a faulty washing machine.
‘Dog Days’ is a heartwarming drama starring Youn Yuh Jung, Yoo Hai Jin, and Kim Yunjin, exploring the intertwined lives of people and their dogs, and showcasing the profound connections that transcend species.
Lastly, Picnic is a touching indie drama featuring Na Moon-hee and Kim Yeong-ok, telling the story of an elderly woman reconnecting with past friends and finding new joy in life, with themes of friendship and ageing with grace.
Benalla Mayor Danny Claridge said he was enthusiastic about hosting the festival in Benalla.
“It is wonderful to have the Korean Film Festival in Australia come to Benalla,” Cr Claridge said.
“This event offers our community a unique cultural experience and the opportunity to enjoy world-class cinema right here in our own town.
“We are honoured to be a part of the KOFFIA Touring Program and look forward to welcoming everyone to these fantastic screenings.”
Four films will be screened for free at Benalla Cinema on Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 15.
