They say the best things in life are free, which is simply not true, but that doesn’t mean some free things aren’t worth taking advantage of.

Benalla Art Gallery will host Imagined and Illuminated, a free youth workshop to create a collaborative moving artwork in September.
The workshop coincides with the presentation of multimedia artist Yandell Walton’s spectacular interactive projection artwork, Human Effect, which is part of the Always and Altered exhibition.
Ms Walton will lead the group across two days to collaboratively conceive a video artwork which explores people’s connection to nature.
Participants will then be guided in techniques to capture video content, which Ms Walton will then edit into a resolved video work to be projected on the Benalla Art Gallery outdoor projection facade throughout October.
Benalla Art Gallery Director, Eric Nash, said the workshop will be an exciting opportunity for young creatives in the community to take part in an intensive workshop with one of the country’s most exciting moving image artists.
“I am eager to see the collaborative artwork presented each night throughout October for our community to truly appreciate the young talent in the region,” Mr Nash said.
Ms Walton said she couldn’t wait to get to the Rose City.
“I look forward to creating a collaborative work with the local community that explores our connection to nature,” Ms Walton said.
“Personal devices allow us to gather content easily and explore accessible technology to create contemporary artworks.”
Benalla Rural City Council’s Youth Development Coordinator, Steph Brack, said she was also looking forward to the event.
“Collaborating with the Benalla Art Gallery provides a great opportunity to use (Victorian Government) funding to support creative and innovative young people in the community to access amazing workshops and artists like Yandell,” Ms Brack said.
The workshop will take place across two days, from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3 .
The free event is open to participants aged 15 to 25 years, and is limited to eight places on a first bookings basis.
The workshop has been supported by the Victorian Government through the Benalla FReeZA and Engage! programs.
