Chief yarnbomber Joy Shirley said not to worry. She had been busy telling those inquiring about its removal that it would be back, bigger, brighter and better, in only a few months.
“We can’t keep it up all year as it becomes damaged and the colours fade,” she said.
“But it is going back up in the last week of July.
“We will be meeting every second Tuesday in Benalla’s Visitor Information Centre (as of April 23) from 2pm to 4pm to fix up some of the previous installations.
“Rather than throw them out, if they become a bit worn or faded, we can add new bits and update them.
“We’ve been adding butterflies to some of the beanies to make them look new.”
Ms Shirley said all the Rose City’s favourites, such as the Minions and Bluey, would be back.
“And we have a new theme this year,” she said.
“We gave a bit of a hint with the yarnbombing we had up last week, and we will have a theme of gnomes, fairies and elves.”
The heart of the installation will once again be Bridge St East, with some items going up in Carrier St.
“The Uniting Church always get involved, too,” Ms Shirley said.
“They are not technically part of the yarnombers, but they always do their own installation.
“They will have the same theme as the rest of the yarn.”
The group will also have its usual display in Benalla Library.
Ms Shirley said the group was always on the lookout for new members.
To help out, go to the Visitor Information Centre on Mair St any second Tuesday (from April 23) from 2pm to 4pm.
