Mayor Danny Claridge said Benalla Rural City Council would soon align with the Victorian Government’s 2030 mandate for a four-stream waste and recycling system.
“Our commitment is to increase recycling, and this initiative marks a significant stride towards a sustainable future for our community,” Cr Claridge said.
“As part of the review, council is considering kerbside glass collection and drop-off points to cater to the varied needs of urban and rural residents.
“These changes, to be introduced in July 2025, will rely on community feedback to determine the most effective collection methods.”
Cr Claridge said the feedback process was vital as council aimed to create a waste and recycling system that benefited everyone in our community.
Residents are invited to join the consultation process, which closes on Monday, September 16.
Residents can either take part in an online survey or, for those without internet, phone council’s customer service team on 5762 2600 to access a paper survey.
“Your involvement is key to the success of this new system,” Cr Claridge said.
“Together, we can significantly reduce waste and enhance recycling in Benalla.”
