Boy on electric scooter hit by car

The Year 12 student, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was relatively uninjured and taken to hospital with minor cuts and bruises.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene, and was uninjured.

The motor vehicle was travelling slowly, approximately 20 km/h, and has minor damage in the form of a dint in the bonnet.

The use of electric scooters is illegal on public land in Victoria. The only exception is a commercial hire arrangement in inner city Melbourne and Ballarat.

The scooters do not meet roadworthy requirements and pose increased road safety risks.

They are difficult for drivers of vehicles to see, increasing the risk of accidents.

Furthermore, the speed they travel at poses greater risk of injury to riders.

The illegal use of e-scooters carries penalties which may be enforced by Victoria Police.
