The clothing swap not only promotes sustainable fashion choices but also aims to combat the pressing issue of textile waste.
In Australia alone, a shocking six tonnes of textiles are sent to landfill every 10 minutes.
By reusing and extending the life of clothing, people can collectively make a difference.
After the event, un-swapped items will be collected by U4B, an organisation committed to keeping garments in circulation.
They will repair, upcycle, and ensure that the clothes are utilised before they are responsibly recycled.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn urged residents to participate in this exciting and eco-friendly fashion experience.
“This event is an excellent opportunity for our community to come together, promote sustainability, and engage in environmentally friendly practices,” Cr Hearn said.
“Let's all make a difference by re-imagining our fashion choices and embracing the circular economy.”
The Benalla Clothing Swap will take place on Wednesday, June 28 from 5pm at the Benalla CWA Hall, 117 Bridge St East.
