However, for Kat Taylor, none of that was a concern when, earlier this year, she auditioned for the leading role of Judy Bernly in the Numurkah Singers Theatre production 9 to 5 the Musical.
The production is based on the movie 9 to 5, in which three women kidnap their boss and run his business.
Ms Taylor said she was over the moon when she won the part of Judy.
“I was really excited and thankful for the opportunity,” she said.
Ms Taylor said she auditioned because has always loved music and singing.
That passion for all things musical led Ms Taylor to learn to play the guitar, sing and write songs.
She has also been part of an ensemble for a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Melbourne.
Asked why she auditioned for the role of Judy, Ms Taylor said it was personal.
“I think I can somewhat relate to the character and thought she’d be fun to play,” she said.
For Ms Taylor, learning the lines and the new songs is the hardest part, and she uses a method of repetition (constantly practising to memorise) to prepare herself.
Though learning lines was undoubtedly difficult, Ms Taylor said it was well worth the effort.
“It’s great meeting new people and having some fun and a laugh,” she said.
Ms Taylor said her favourite song had to be Get Out and Stay Out.
As for anyone thinking about going to see the show, Ms Taylor said it would be a great experience.
“Come and have a look, we all worked really hard and had a lot of fun, and it’s a great show with great music,” she said.
9 to 5 will be performed on May 17, 18, 19, 24 and 25 at Numurkah Town Hall.
