Community feedback and a review of traffic near Greater Shepparton Secondary College has resulted in 29 draft recommendations to improve traffic, parking and safety in the area.

The draft Shepparton Inner North Local Area Traffic Management Plan was a follow-up study after an initial plan implemented by council in late 2021.
The new recommendations aim to address submissions from the community and observations made during a study by One Mile Grid Pty Ltd of traffic, parking and pedestrian management near GSSC.
They include improvements to cycling and pedestrian connectivity, line markings, additional pedestrian crossings, introduction of speed control devices, no-stopping restrictions and modifying some parking restrictions.
The study considered the traffic impacts in a broader area around GSSC, including neighbouring schools and businesses.

City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said council was supportive of any measures to promote active travel.
“The draft recommendations will make it safer for parents, students and residents to travel to and from school or work by walking or cycling,” Cr Sali said.
“The draft recommendations have been informed by community feedback, which expressed a need for safer and better pedestrian and cycling infrastructure in the area, and for improved traffic management and road safety.
“We’re keen to hear what the community has to say.”
Based on initial feedback, in March the council introduced timed 15-minute spaces during school pick-up and drop-off times on sections of Feshti, Hawdon and Rea streets, and the new plan recommends these arrangements are kept in place.
The cost of the implementing all of the recommendations is estimated at $1,117,020.
Council will undergo public consultation from September 26 to October 24, and a report will be prepared for council to consider when preparing the final plan.
Key recommendations will start being implemented later this year.
Residents and commuters, students and parents linked to schools within the study area are encouraged to provide feedback on any transport concerns they have, as well as feedback on the recommendations in the draft traffic management plan.
