Greater Shepparton, as well as Moira and Strathbogie shires, saw a drop in the number of crime incidents last year, while Mitchell and Campaspe shires saw a rise, according to the latest figures from the Crime Statistics Agency.
In Greater Shepparton, there were 5626 criminal incidents in 2022, a decrease of 4.6 per cent on 2021’s figures where there were 5899 offences.
In fact, 2022 saw the lowest number of crime incidents in seven years in the local government area.
Moira Shire saw a 12 per cent decrease in the number of crime incidents overall, with 1474 incidents of crimes in 2022, compared to 1675 the previous year.
This was the lowest number of incidents since 2017.
Strathbogie Shire saw a 17.7 per cent decrease in crime between 2022 and the previous year.
There were 381 crime incidents in the shire in 2022, the lowest number since 2015.
This was compared to 359 incidents in 2021.
Mitchell Shire saw a small increase in incidents, up by only nine incidents from 2481 in 2021 to 2490 last year.
This constituted a 0.4 per cent increase in incidents between the two years.
In Campaspe Shire, the numbers increased by 5.8 per cent, with 2581 incidents in 2022, compared to 2440 the previous year.
