On Saturday, November 6, at 11am the community of Devenish will honour Remembrance Day with a special service.

The event will include the unveiling of a memorial to Sally, the explosive detection dog, who passed away this year.

Sally went on several tours of duty to Afghanistan with her owner, Devenish’s own, Tom Trewin.

Event organiser, and Benalla Rural City Australian of the year, June Howard, said the Benalla RSL would be attending to conduct the service

“The 20th lighthorse VMR from Shepparton will also be there in full uniform,” Ms Howard said.

"They do a great job standing to attention during the service.

“Then we will have the unveiling of Sally the explosive detection dog from Afghanistan.

“Tom, Sally’s owner, will be there to unveil the memorial.

“This is in memory of her and every year we can have a little memorial for her.

“We are also going to have a poet, Trevor Hargreaves from Yarrawonga RSL.

“He came to our Anzac Day event, and he was at the third silo opening.

“He was very well received and we are glad to have him back.”

Ms Howard said the local pub would be closed on the Saturday, however, there would be tea, coffee and biscuits served on the pub verandah.
