Campaspe detectives are investigating a fire that occurred at Echuca Harness Racing Club around 4pm on Tuesday, December 31.
An area of grass about 20m by 30m was burnt in the club’s grounds, adjacent to houses on Berryman Close where it is believed to have originated.
The CFA attended the fire, and investigators deemed it was suspicious, believing it to be deliberately lit.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses with information or footage to contact the station.
On the morning of December 31, a 23-year-old woman was arrested by Victoria Police in relation to an alleged burglary at KFC Echuca and an alleged motor vehicle theft on Ogilvie Ave.
Police allege she was found in possession of stolen property and the vehicle, and was charged with both offences.
Police tried to have her remanded in custody via a video link to Bendigo Magistrates’ Court, but the magistrate granted bail with strict conditions.
The identity of an outstanding offender is known to police, who are making inquiries about him in relation to the alleged KFC burglary.
A separate woman who entered a residential property and left with stolen items in Echuca on the night of Saturday, December 28 has been identified by police, who are looking to speak to her.
An attempted break-in to a business on Hare St occurred on Christmas Day.
A person tried to enter the premises through a back door, but police believe the business’ alarm spooked them.
The person is thought to be known to police, and an investigation by Campaspe detectives is ongoing.
