This multi-generational event, held this year on October 12, has been running for more than 10 years.
The event brings together girls, young women, mothers and grandmothers for a beautiful day filled with live music, catered brunch, local market, fashion parade, an inspirational speaker, gifts for all attendees, and exciting prizes.
It's a wonderful opportunity for women to feel special, have a great time and leave feeling refreshed, encouraged and loved.
Another aspect of the brunch is a cheque give-away to a chosen local cause or charity, along with the annual Woman Who Shines Award, given to a woman who shines in our community who has been nominated by her peers in the community.
At this year’s brunch, Epicentre Church op shop donated $5000 towards Echuca Regional Health’s Wellbeing Primary Mental Health Care Program.
This program seeks to bridge the gaps in mental health care, providing accessible resources, counselling, and educational programs that empower individuals to face their challenges with strength and hope.
Imagine a community where no-one suffers in silence, where mental wellbeing is prioritised, and where support is readily available to all.
‘’We are excited to be a small part of this new program, and look forward to seeing it impact Echuca-Moama and surrounds in a positive way,’’ op shop manager Evonne Cummins said.
Hazel Smith was named the Woman Who Shines Award winner for 2024.
She is an inspirational fire cracker of a woman and someone who has served generations, from caring for the young children all the way up to the elderly.
Ms Smith is a familiar face at local nursing homes where she assists residents. She also visits local hospital and provides emotional support to many who lean on her for love and wisdom.
She volunteers regularly at the CCK Food Barn in Kyabram, assisting those in need.
Ms Smith organises the Silver and Diamonds group, a social outreach for those over 70, but her impact on youth is equally remarkable. She runs programs designed to build self-esteem in children.
She is a published author, having written several children’s books. The books are sold locally with all proceeds going to Teen Challenge.
Her hospitality is legendary. She thinks nothing of providing a meal to someone in need or inviting newcomers into her home for food and great conversation.
Perhaps most impressively, Ms Smith is known for visiting complete strangers she hears are in need, offering friendship and assistance in any way she can.
Her smiling face is recognised by many in town, a testament to her constant presence in the community.
From supporting the elderly to nurturing the young, feeding the hungry to comforting the distressed, Ms Smith’s selfless servant heart shines through.
A huge thank-you to the local businesses that donated to the Woman Who Shines prize.
