A construction tender will be released in October 2022, inviting builders to enter a formal submission to construct the new station, which will be located adjacent to the existing police station and courthouse on Bridge Street, Benalla.
The construction tender for the new station is planned to be accepted in December 2022, with a completion date of March 2024.
Secondary civil works, including the construction of a new police station carpark and the demolition of the existing police station will be finalised by June 2024.
Benalla Inspector David Ryan said the new Benalla Police Station will accommodate a range of police functions, including uniform officers, Highway Patrol officers, Crime Investigation detectives, Sexual Offences and Child Abuse detectives, and police prosecutors.
“The new Benalla Police Station will provide local officers and detectives with state-of-the-art facilities and technology, ensuring we are well equipped to keep the community safe moving forward,” Inspector Ryan said.
“The new station has also been firmly designed with the future in mind, with enough space to support a growing workforce.
“Once built, the new Benalla Police Station will provide the community with a modern, accessible, and centrally located police station.
“The new station will include meeting spaces where police and the community can discuss areas of concern, as well as a dedicated Incident Police Operation Centre, which will be pivotal in the region’s emergency management response.”
The station will also be future-proofed, with significant capacity to house additional police officers and units allocated to the community.
The new Benalla Police Station build was allocated $28.842 million as part of the 2021-22 State Budget.
The construction tender for Benalla Police Station will be posted on tenders.vic.gov.au in October.
