When The Ensign was approached by a concerned member of the public about the state of the former Barkly St Campus of Benalla P-12 we took a trip over there to take a look.
Since our last visit a chain link fence has been erected around the main buildings, offering some protection.
However, there is still lots of graffiti, windows are broken, walls have cracked and doors have been forced open.
In one of the buildings the lights are on for some reason.
As you walk around the back you see more and more damage.
It seems like only last week that I was stood in the same courtyard as students put on a sausage sizzle to celebrate a new medical room.
It was a hive of activity that day. The gardens were well maintained, the buildings clean. The windows intact.
On this visit it seemed more like a ghost town. Deserted and unloved.
The Ensign contacted Heritage Victoria to ask if any of the buildings were heritage listed due to their age and significance in the Rose City.
Heritage Victoria confirmed none of the site is listed.
We also contacted the Department of Education to inquire as to the plans for the site, and to inform them of the damage.
It is yet to respond.
