National Tree Day is Australia’s largest tree planting event and Benalla Rural City Council is inviting people to take part in a community planting along the Hollands Creek Bio-link Channel on Sunday, July 30 from 11am to 1pm.
National Tree Day is an annual initiative of Planet Ark, that provides an opportunity for people of all ages to get involved and reconnect with nature, while helping to protect and enhance our natural environment.
Benalla Rural City Council Mayor Bernie Hearn is encouraging the community to get involved with the planting and help revegetate the area.
“By participating in National Tree Planting Day you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the importance of trees, their role in the environment, and how they benefit our local ecosystem,” Cr Hearn said.
“It’s a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, I encourage everyone to come along and take part.”
The event will include tree planting, information about the Regent Honeyeater Project from project coordinator Andie Guerin followed by a free barbecue.
All tools and equipment will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring their own drinking water, all weather clothing and sturdy enclosed shoes.
The event is being run by Benalla Rural City Council with support from the Regent Honeyeater Project.
