Benalla Fine Foods is a new company set up by Brett Salta, which is offering a catering service as well as operating a restaurant at the Gliding Club.
“The club dining room has been closed through COVID and we have re-opened every Friday and Saturday night,” Mr Salta said.
"We are operating out of the Gliding Club kitchen and we’re doing food here as well as catering different events and functions all over town.
“It is a club-style menu, but the emphasis is on fresh and seasonal food.
“It’s only a small menu — we offer a steak, we have a crumbed chicken dish, fish and chips and a vegetarian option as well as as couple of deserts.
“Last week we had an apricot bread and butter pudding and an orange and almond cake.”
Mr Salta said while a lot of gliding club members frequented the business, it was open to anyone who would like a good meal with a unique view.
"I think people are desperate for some sort of normality,“ he said.
“And the other thing is to be able to sit at a table with friends and have that sort of basic social interaction.
“With daylight saving and sunset getting later and later the guys have been congregating out the front with the fire pit and drinks, which is really beautiful.
“You look out at this huge expanse of runway and airport.
“There’s gliders, helicopters and planes, and I can see why people get hooked on flying.
“The al fresco area is one of our selling points, it is already starting to get quite popular.”
Mr Salta is available to cater events either at the Gliding Club or within Benalla.
