Echuca concreting company Humes is contributing to one of Victoria’s largest road projects, the North-East Link, by manufacturing 4000 box culverts.
Each culvert measures 3m by 3m and weighs about 20 tonnes.
The Echuca facility produces up to 14 culverts daily, using concrete that incorporates alternative materials to reduce environmental impact.
Major Road Projects Victoria chief executive Duncan Elliott said regional Victoria was playing a key role in the construction of the state's biggest ever road project by supplying key concrete components needed to build the North-East Link.
The culverts will be transported to Melbourne later this year, while the manufacturing process provides employment for 60 local workers, boosting the regional economy.
The project, jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian governments, is scheduled for completion in 2028.
