"We knew this year's Limited Edition Early Harvest was pretty special, but this industry award is a clear indication that others agree," Rich Glen, Chief Executive Officer Jack Vodusek said.
Ros and Daimien Vodusek were in London to accept the award in person.
"It's certainly up there as far as memorable highlights in our 18-year olive oil career," Daimien said.
Daimien is the co-founder of Rich Glen and planted 36,000 olive trees on the farm 6km west of Yarrawonga with his father Franc back in 1997.
Twenty olive oil experts judged over 500 olive oils from 25 olive oil-producing countries. Only 50 oils received platinum status, with Rich Glen being the only olive oil in Australia to be recognised.
Rich Glen’s Early Harvest is hand-selected and harvested almost two months before other olives. It is then pressed within four hours of harvesting to retain the nutritionally prized antioxidants and polyphenols. It offers an intense grass-like bouquet and a herbaceous, peppery flavour that lingers on the palate.
“It’s a unique olive oil, and it’s not a given that you will get the same quality, each year,” Jack said.
"This year, it is a 'cracker' for its highly prized health qualities, including high antioxidants and polyphenols,” he said.
Only 3000 bottles were produced for a limited release! It is available at Rich Glen Provedore, Yarrawonga Echuca or online at www.richglenoliveoil.com.
