A belated NAIDOC Week Kyabram event is taking place on Friday, July 19 to celebrate Australia’s First Nations people.
Aldara Yenara Aboriginal Corporation will host the event at Kyabram Community Learning Centre to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This year, Aldara Yenara is running a NAIDOC Week (plus one) event on Friday from 10am to 4.30pm, featuring First Nations arts and crafts, Yorta Yorta language classes, and a yidaki (didgeridoo) demonstration.
NAIDOC Week ran from July 7 to 14, encouraging Australians to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories and join in the celebrations of First Nations people.
This year’s national theme, ‘Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud’, urged communities to amplify silenced voices and encouraged the unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity.
The NAIDOC Week (plus one) event is free, with food and coffee available throughout the day.
