Club president Shane Barkley said he was optimistic about the upcoming season.
“This year we are looking to increase interest in the sport after the interruptions over the last few years,” he said
“We typically have around 100 members aged between five and 16 years of age and tiny tots for kids aged between three and four years old.
“Numbers have tripled in the last six years which we are really pleased about.”
Mr Barkley said little athletics is a great sport to be part of.
“It’s a great foundation for all sports including football and cricket,” he said.
“Little aths is really good at teaching running, jumping and throwing. So they are actually getting out and learning a few life skills while there doing athletics.
“The skills they learn with our club are used for interschool sports carnivals too. We love seeing them representing their schools at a higher level.
“It’s not just about health and fitness either. We are a family club. Kids make lifelong friends through it, and so do the parents.
“We accept all ages and abilities and cater to those different abilities. There’s also real emphasis on boosting confidence and self-improvement.”
Off the track, the club has been working hard keeping the track in top shape. Some exciting new developments have also been underway with a new shed installed, part of the Morris Park master plan in conjunction with Corowa Cricket Club.
Now the club is urging the businesses and organisations to jump on board with sponsorships so that the club can continue to thrive.
The club will host a ‘come and try’ night on Friday, October 14 from 5:15pm. It will be a great opportunity for local children to have a feel for what little athletics is all about.
To find out more about the club or to register, search Corowa Federation Little Athletics Centre on Facebook or email corowalittleathletics@gmail.com. Early bird discounts end this Friday, September 23. Active Kids vouchers welcomed!
