The Benalla Migrant Camp exhibition was open during the Benalla Festival attracting visitors, locals, school groups and even a celebrity.

As part of the event, alongside the exhibition which attracted 50 visitors, there was a well-attended site walk; and former Benalla Migrant Camp resident Helen Topor gave a talk on her book Neither King nor Saint, at Benalla Library.
Exhibition curator Sabine Smyth said former Neighbours actor Krista Vendy was in town for the Benalla Shorts Film Festival and found her family’s records in the camp school enrolment book.

“We also received a sizeable donation towards our exhibition from Andrew and Natalia Makohon of the Ukrainian Association in Sunshine,” Ms Smyth said.
Ms Smyth said Andrew’s mum was born in the camp and his grandmother was still alive at 100 years old.
“They (raised the money doing) the Re-Ride the Past Fundraiser in March this year,” Ms Smyth said.
