Ms Nicol has compiled an incredible history of Thoona and has written a book featuring a treasure trove of historical photos.
On Saturday, September 7 former state member Bill Sykes will host the launch of Betty's book, My memories of Thoona and its people, at the Thoona Memorial Hall.
Betty's good friend Beryl Wooller popped into the Ensign office last week to tell us a bit about the book.
"This is actually her third memoir," Ms Wooller said.
"It's all about Betty’s life. She's 94 now and has been collecting photos and historical items since she was at school.
"She’s an amazing lady. Her memory is incredible, far better than mine.
"This book has taken her about six months to put together.
"It talks about the history of Thoona and the surrounding area. There's information about the old train station, the homes of early settlers and old businesses.
"It includes photos of old churches, schools, stores and hotels. There is a section on the old butter factory, the history of the Mt Bruno picnic, CWA members, sports and fire brigades. There's almost too much to mention.
"One of the things I personally love about it is the wonderful collection of old photos from the area."
Betty now lives in a unit at St John's Village in Wangaratta and is looking forward to a day out in Thoona to launch her book.
Copies will be available for sale for only $30.
The launch will be held from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, September 7 and includes an afternoon tea. Light lunches will be available to purchase from the Thoona Store and Pub.
