Know what to do
Have you ever been involved in a minor car accident and did not know what to do?
Here are some things you should know:
• you MUST stop immediately and ensure no-one is injured;
• exchange name, address, registration number and, if you are not the owner of the vehicle, give the owner’s details. These details will be required if you need to make a claim through your insurance company;
• if anyone is injured and requires an ambulance, call 000. If police are unable to attend, you must report it to the nearest police station; and
• if property is damaged and the owner is not present, you must report it to the nearest police station.
If there are no injuries and all details have been exchanged, there is no requirement to report the accident to police.
Illegal truck parking
Community members have recently raised concerns about truck parking.
The police teamed up with Mitchell Shire to address the concern.
An operation ran from Friday, July 1, into the early hours of Saturday, July 2.
The team began its patrols in Beveridge about 1am, when one heavy vehicle was found to have been parking longer than one hour in a built-up area.
Police then attended Taylors Lane in Wallan, where seven heavy vehicles were parked. The drivers of all seven were issued with infringements.
Four more heavy vehicle operators were issued infringement notices in Wallan.
In Kilmore, there was one infringement issued for parking longer than one hour and one for parking on a council nature strip.
There was one infringement issued in Broadford for parking longer than one hour.
A total of 15 infringements were issued during the six-hour operation.
The operation ended at 5am on July 2.
This operation was only considered due to concerns raised by residents.
Police want to remind the public of the consequences of parking trucks in residential areas.
It is not only the parking that impedes drivers’ visibility, but the starting of loud trucks in the early hours of the morning impacts residents.
