Rutherglen Show’s new events, old favourites and free entry

The old favourite Morris Wines Woodchop will be back, with more classes added in for your enjoyment.

The Rutherglen Agricultural Society’s 134th Annual Show - the only agricultural show in Indigo Shire – is on Sunday week, October 20 from 8.30am to 4.00pm.

“After the tremendous success of last year’s show, the Ag Society will again be making gate entry to the show free to all who attend,” Ag society president Greg Lumby told The Free Press.

“We hope this will allow more people to again attend the show and enjoy the displays, activities, stalls and competitions on offer.”

Many volunteers are working hard to see that events and competitions return better than ever. There will be some new offerings as well to provide entertainment and fun for everyone including a scarecrow competition, home brew and collections classes, along with the Great Team Challenge.

The sideshow alley will be popular again.

All the pavilion classes are back, with a few changes and inclusions to make it as big as ever.

“Our horse program should be a great spectacle on the main arena again, commencing at 8.30am, with the Fun Ring available for the young ones,” Mr Lumby said.

“We also welcome back the Colonial Clydesdales team with their wagon rides, In The Groove Drumming sessions, Murray River Calisthenics Group display and the ever-popular face painters.

In the Groove Community Drumming Sessions will again be part of the family entertainment for all ages at this year’s Rutherglen Show.

“We have the old favourite back again, the Morris Wines Woodchop competition, with more classes added in for your enjoyment.”

Although down a little in entries from yesteryear, at least 10 entries are expected in the Men's Cake competition according to Ag society’s co-ordinator Kay Lumby.

A special story about a long-time event steward and the show will appear in next week’s Free Press along with a story on former show president John Williams.
