Historically, tennis matches were confined to daylight hours on weekends, spanning from October to March; however, this traditional schedule has seen a decline.
Instead, more and more players are opting for weeknight competitions and social games under lights, effectively extending the tennis season from August to May.
Mitchell Shire Acting Mayor Nathan Clark hailed the project as a pivotal upgrade for the complex, emphasising its importance for the local community.
“This upgrade is not just about enhancing our sports facilities; it’s about promoting active living, improving local health outcomes and strengthening our community bonds,” he said.
“The improved lighting will make our courts more accessible and safer, encouraging more participation.
“We’re very thankful for the support of the Victorian Government for this project. These works are another great example of what we can achieve in partnership.”
The $164,772 upgrades were funded by $109,848 from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund and $54,924 from Mitchell Shire Council.
