In the past 12 months, in Benalla, we’ve seen numerous shops close.
One business that closes the doors on its CBD location, but continues to trade, is Blooms on Bridge.
Owner Mandy Fita said she was happy the community continued to support her family business, and hoped all small businesses in Benalla were the first port of call when it came to finding that perfect Christmas gift.
“It’s a very busy time for retail in general, but for us as a florist we get busy,” she said.
“We do giftware, but predominantly we do flowers for people to send to relatives they can’t be with, or they buy flowers to have in their homes or for their Christmas table, that kind of thing.”
Mandy said with all the online shopping, it was getting increasingly difficult for small businesses to compete.
“I like the options in Benalla,” she said.
“I get a bit from Toyworld, of course, two young kids and nieces and nephews.
“In terms of giftwear, that kind of thing, Stolz is always good.
“I get a lot of vouchers for beauticians, like Aqua Door and Tanya Brosig’s hair studio in Nunn St.
“It’s wonderful for a hair-pampering experience.
“Rambling Rose is another great local shop, and many of these do vouchers. It’s always worth asking at a local business if they offer vouchers. Many do.
“If you need any plants, Sandra’s nursery on Witt St is excellent.”
While Mandy has mentioned some great businesses, there are plenty more to visit.
So, for those who still have Christmas shopping to finish up, head into Benalla and see what local businesses have to offer.
