Grim Fawkner is headlining along with Jessica Lorraine with special guest Toby Brooks.
Grim started busking on Hobart streets, before relocating to the mainland to immerse himself in the music scene.
He is interested in the storytelling element of music through both words and sounds.
“Storytelling is what makes music fun for me, even if that is not in words, but with guitar riffs, where you can say so much with cords,” he said.
“Melodies that conjure up or leave enough to the listener’s imagination.”
Grim calls his music folk country, with a touch of the blues but still kind of poppy.
“At Tongala, I will mostly be playing a lot of fast finger-picking country blues roots music,” Grim said.
“It is all my original material, including songs I have recorded with Casey Chambers and songs I have been writing on friends’ couches in Brisbane.
“They will mostly be fast and fun songs that make the locals, regardless of age, go ‘cool.’
“It is just me and an acoustic guitar called Johnette, so there are two of us on stage.
“People often compare my music to John Butler, Ben Harper or Casey Chambers.”
Grim loves to travel to country towns, as one of his goals is to play to everyone in the world.
“I just love playing in country towns because of the incredible community spirit,” he said.
“In the city, people don't really give you the time of day, but in the country, they do.
“In Tongala I will be mostly playing songs, doing what I love doing, but trying to find some awesome food as well.”
Food providers at Tongala Eats and Beats will include Mimi’s Kitchen, Nanna Marce, Harry O’s Barbecue, Cinnamon Co donuts, The Smoothi Truck and It’s Party Time with snow cones, fairy floss and popcorn.
Tongala Primary School parents and friends will be heating up barbecue with chicken steaks, sausages and gourmet hamburgers.
For kids, there will be Enchantment Rainbow Entertainment, a silent disco and old-school games.
Local businesses will have market stalls, and the CFA will be there with an information tent.
Local Jack Graves, who is about to embark on the Shitbox Rally from Bendigo to Townsville, will be there with his car, and up for a chat.
Tongala Eats and Beats is organised by Tongala Development Group volunteers and sponsored by the Campaspe Shire Council and the Community Bank Tongala and Mathoura.
