It comes as Operation Roadwise, a Victoria Police operation targeting risk-taking behaviour on the roads, came to a close on January 6.

On top of the drink and drug offences infringement notices were issued for:
● Driving while disqualified - four cases;
● Unlicensed drivers - five cases;
● Speeding offences - 142 cases;
● Disobeying signs/signals - two cases;
● Seatbelt offences - two cases;
● Mobile phone offences - three cases;
● Unregistered vehicles - 21 cases; and
● One vehicle was impounded.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said continued drink and drug driving offences were a worry.
“Drivers are continuing to undertake intentional high-risk driving putting themselves and the public in danger of serious injury and death,” the spokesperson said.
In terms of drink and drug infringement notices Benalla fared much better than neighbouring police areas.
In Shepparton, for example, more than one in four drivers stopped as part of operation Roadwise tested positive to drugs.

During Operation Roadwise 10 people lost their life on Victorian roads, which was five people less than the same time period last year.
Statewide, 463 people were caught drink driving and 535 people caught with drugs in their system.
More than 14,216 traffic offences and 1332 crime offences were detected, including 6201 speeding offences and 1564 unregistered vehicles.
Operation Roadwise ran from 12.01 am on December 18, 2020, to 11.59 pm on January 6, 2021.
