Shop local for that special gift
With Mother’s day right around the corner, there is no better time to get out and shop local to find the perfect gift for mum.
There are plenty of gifts, hampers and specials on offer from a range of local providers.
A number of local businesses have been advertising special deals in our pages, so make sure you look carefully through today’s edition and grab Tuesday’s for a few more ideas.
If you’re not sure exactly what to get mum, a Deni Business Chamber Do It In Deni gift card is always a good choice.
It can be spent at any local chamber member business mum chooses.
Concert for mum
Give your mum a treat and take her along to the Deniliquin RSL Club this Sunday to see Jade Hurley OAM perform live.
A former Deni resident, Hurley has toured with his music internationally.
As a result he’s shared the stage with the likes of John and June Carter Cash, Johnny Ray, Woody Herman, Don Williams and Johnny O’Keefe.
His shows are the ultimate country rock concert, favouring classics like Rockin’ All Over The World, Old Time Rock & Roll, Running Bear, Peggy Sue and Oh Boy.
And then there’s his own songs, including the number one hit Down in the Riverina.
Hurley will be at his piano at the Deni RSL from 2pm this Sunday, for the special Mother’s Day show.
Tickets are available at the club reception or by phoning the club on 5881 1455.
Get your flu shot
According to NSW Health we are seeing an increase in flu cases and admissions to hospital with flu, indicating an earlier start to the flu season than in previous years.
People are urged to get their flu shot as soon as possible.
People over 60, children under 5, immunocompromised and pregnant women are at higher risk of serious illness from flu.
For these people, a free flu vaccine is available and strongly recommended as soon as possible.
The flu vaccine for everyone else is available from GPs and pharmacies for a small fee.
