The initiative urges communities to consider the toll on workers who endure verbal abuse and violence from frustrated customers.
WorkSafe Executive Director of Health and Safety Sam Jenkin is encouraging people to be considerate in their interactions with workers.
“We are calling on everyday people to stop and reflect on the way we all interact with workers, and challenge the belief that seemingly 'small' acts of aggression are harmless,” he said.
WorkSafe claims for work-related injuries due to suspected work-related aggression or violence have risen steadily over the past decade — more than doubling from 465 in 2014 to 973 in 2024.
Of the 973 incidents reported in 2024, about 48 reports came from the Loddon Mallee region.
Claims were made from workers across a range of industries including retail, transport, healthcare and social assistance, education and training and emergency services.
Mr Jenkin said employers needed to consult and support their workers.
“Employers must consult with workers and have open conversations about the type of hazards workers face, then take reasonable steps to eliminate or reduce the risks,” Mr Jenkin said.
“It’s critical that employers develop, implement and regularly review controls in consultation with workers.”
The campaign, which runs until Monday, June 30, builds on the success of WorkSafe's earlier ‘It's never okay’ initiative.
The campaign will run on TV, radio, social media, print and feature in workplaces.
