A Kyabram man has been flown to hospital in a critical condition following a crash involving a motorbike on Maude St, Shepparton, on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene at the Maude and Swallow St intersection after 2pm on July 4.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said the man was in a critical condition and being treated for multiple injuries.
Shepparton police Senior Sergeant Glenn Parker said the 59-year-old motorbike rider was airlifted to a hospital in Melbourne.
He said police believe a car struck the rear wheel of the bike, causing it and the 59-year-old rider to crash into another vehicle, he said.
Sen Sgt Parker said both car drivers involved in the accident were co-operating with police and were transferred to Goulburn Valley Health to undergo blood tests.
Maude St’s south-bound lane was closed between Hayes St and Sobraon St, and Swallow St was closed between Wyndham St and Maude St.
Sen Sgt Parker said the crash was a reminder for drivers and riders to be aware on the roads, especially during winter.
“We’re getting far too many of these collisions involving motorcycles,” he said.
“So the message is to drivers to be the ever-vigilant, because they are harder to see, they offer no protection for riders and equally, riders need to be very careful on the roads.”
Sen Sgt Parker said police were investigating the cause of the crash.
