With more heat forecast across the region, supporters will be hoping round 11 Goulburn Valley weekend pennant division one action gets under way, with plenty of fascinating encounters — including Shepparton Golf’s trip to Kyabram — set to have finals implications.
Currently sitting undefeated on top of the ladder Golf swept aside Stanhope last week and coach Brett Foley said he was happy with how things were travelling.
“We’re going all right, we have made a few changes to the team from the previous week,” Foley said.
“Last time we played Kyabram it was a pretty close game, we had one rink win well which helped, but we didn’t have Brad Orr play that day, so we’re going in confident.
“Obviously we haven’t lost a game, but we still need to play well, going over to Kyabram against those guys on their home deck it’s going to be a pretty hot one, so we’re looking forward to it.”
Making some positional changes going into the clash, Foley said the side was trying to ensure its line up was at its best heading into the pointy end of the season.
“We’ve got Kyabram this week and then we’ve got Tallygaroopna a few weeks later, so we’re making sure we have the right mix going up against those sort of teams,” he said.
For Kyabram, a loss to Tallygaroopna last week has placed increased importance on this game and selector Glenn Fields said the side was approaching the contest the same as any other.
“It’s always bigger when you’re playing Golf, especially coming off the result last week,” Fields said.
“It will really show where we were at if we can challenge Golf, even though they’re not the defending premiers they’ve been the benchmark for many seasons.
“We pushed them pretty close at their place, hopefully we can get the result going our way, it would hopefully help secure second spot.”
Like Golf, the Bombers have made some changes to their line-up this weekend with different faces in different positions set to refresh the squad.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Tallygaroopna will be aiming to continue its form at home to Mooroopna.
Coming off a key win against Kyabram the Redlegs will be hoping to avoid any slip-ups against the bottom-placed side.
In another important game Tatura-Hill Top will play host to Stanhope.
Sitting in fifth and sixth, both teams will need to get a wriggle on if they are to catch fourth-placed Shepparton Park.
Taking on East Shepparton at home, Park will be aiming to take a step closer to locking in a finals berth with a win this weekend.
