The A1s played host to Corowa Civic and emerged with a 62/48 win, with all rinks victorious. Bill Armstrong, Sarah Mathieson, Lorna Armstrong and Ted Armstrong won 29/18, Shane Mathieson, David Lindsay, Yvonne Capp and Brendan Rettke emerged victorious 18/16 and Ian Hobson, Ray Bezett, Andrew Daws and Richard Baulch claimed a 15/14 win.
Also at home were the A3s to Chiltern, and while going down 52/59, there were some close results with the rinks — Jim Hodder drawing 17/17, Graeme Greene going down 19/20 and Brenda Sunderland falling 16/22.
To round off the teams at home, in the B1s Swanpool was too good with a 38/71 win. The rink results were Alan Campbell going down 16/22, Hans Dartmann beaten 8/25 and Ray Bradley losing 14/24.
Members should remind themselves that in a lot of cases they are up against some clubs’ top team.
The weekend pennant saw the A2s have a win over Corowa Civic 88/76, in doing so winning three rinks.
David Lindsay, John Stevens, Errol Tomkins and Brendan Rettke won 24/17, Bill Armstrong, Ted Armstrong, Anthony Farnham and John Peake claimed the 25/19 win, and Graeme Pitts, Kevin Morrison, Lorna Armstrong and Wayne Neylon were victorious 22/18, with Peter Brock’s rink going down 17/22.
As with A2s, the A3s also played home to undefeated Beechworth in a competitive game, but went down 65/88.
The results of rinks were Tim Hill 16/18, Ray Bradley 18/24, Alan Campbell 18/28 and Dale Brooker 13/18.
The A4s travelled to Rutherglen with all rinks going down. Jim Hodder lost 15/27, Brenda Sunderland 16/24, Adrian Mennen 17/23 and Brian Higgins 14/21.
On Thursday night the annual general meeting was held and well attended, with the highlight the nomination of Wayne Neylon and Stan Gardner to be become life members. The pair were overwhelmingly adopted, which is well deserved for their contributions to the club.
On Wednesday, November 13, there will be registration and practice for Hump barefoot bowls, starting with a barbecue at 6pm. Teams will consist of three, of which a bowling member can participate but must lead only.
As discussed at the bi-monthly meeting, members are challenged to find a team to enter. On the entry form in the members’ room, only enter the contact person.
Volunteers are required this Friday evening with scroungers, SES gathering and being involved in the Benalla Festival.
