Stan Gardner has been a dedicated member since joining the club in 1980. During the early years, when all maintenance work around the greens was done voluntarily, Stan actively contributed by assisting with the watering program using manual hoses.
His commitment extended to serving as the secretary of the Outdoor Bowls Committee from 1988 to 1989, along with participation in various sub-committees. Over the years, he was appointed a selector four times and served on the outdoor bowls committee three times.
Furthermore, he dedicated four years to the match committee and played a pivotal role in establishing corporate bowls events. His involvement in representing the club at state events and participating in night pennant showcases his dedication and commitment.
The members of the BBC unanimously approved his nomination for life membership, recognising his invaluable contributions to the club.
Wayne Neylon, along with his wife, Tina, joined the BBC in 2009. He quickly became involved, taking on various roles within sub-committees, such as the match and selection committees, and volunteered as a bingo supervisor for five years.
In 2010, Wayne was elected to the board of directors as the business director, later transitioning to the finance director role in 2012. He served as chairman of the board from 2014 until 2022, demonstrating exceptional leadership.
With over 15 years as finance director, Wayne’s expertise in finance, garnered from his prior career, proved invaluable, especially during the challenging period of COVID-19 from 2020 to 2023.
His adept handling of the club’s finances during this crisis ensured the club’s financial survival. Wayne’s nomination for life membership was also approved by the members of the BBC in recognition of his unwavering dedication and significant contributions to the club.
Both Stan and Wayne exemplify the spirit and commitment of the Benalla Bowls Club, and their nominations for life membership serve as a testament to their hard work and impactful involvement in the club’s continued success.
