Croquet Corner
Blessed with a lovely sunny day and the driest croquet courts in the north east, Benalla hosted the 2022 NEDCA Golf Croquet Handicap Doubles on Thursday, September 22.
Twenty players (10 pairs) contested the day in two divisions, handicap ranges 0-7 and 8-12. Benalla was well represented with David Staff and Debbie Hazell playing in Division 1 while Christine Blay and Lyn Moulday and Rosie Moulday and Helena Simm played in Division 2. Well done to Rosie and Helena who were entering their first handicap competition using handicap cards and extra turns, a somewhat daunting experience.
Each pair played four games and had one bye. Play was fiercely contested in good spirits. Competition was close.
In Division 1, Des Davis & Dawn McQuilton (Wodonga) were leading at the start of the last round, only to get pipped at the post by Debbie and David. Congratulations to Debbie Hazell and David Staff who won all four games to become the NEDCA Division 1 winners.
Winners of Division 2 were Helen Collins and Les Langmead from Albury with 4 wins. Christine Blay and Lyn Moulday came a very close second with 3 wins.
Many thanks go to our grounds people and our kitchen helpers who helped to make the day such a success. Thanks also to referees Sarina and Bruce, scorers Veronica and Lorraine and Tournament Manager Geoff Richardson.
Croquet is played each Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9.15am start. New players are always welcome.
